Zhiwei Bai, born in Guangdong, China, in 1981, lives and works in Shenzhen. He is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans sound, moving image, photography, generative systems, and spatial installation. His work examines how bodily perception is measured, translated, and reorganized as it enters media and technological systems, as well as the deviations, delays, and residues produced in the process. Beginning with symbols and visual systems, his practice has gradually expanded toward sound, memory, fieldwork, internal bodily perception, and forms of depletion and error embedded within technological systems.

Before focusing on contemporary art, Bai worked extensively in visual communication and art direction. He founded BAIS DESIGN and was named one of Forbes China’s “Most Promising Designers.” This experience cultivated his sustained sensitivity to symbols, diagrams, information structures, and spatial rhythm, and remains an important foundation of his contemporary art practice.
